As another way to get together for a few drinks and enjoy ourselves, we decided to hold a St Patrick's Night on 18th March 2011 in order to raise money for Andover Young Carers, Help for Heroes and the Southern Jacobites, which was held at the Station Hotel in Andover.

What a great night it was! Kicking the night off at 1930, we had the Wyvern Dance Band entertaining us with some Irish songs and tunes. As you can imagine, everyone joined in when they played the Wild Rover. We were very lucky in having Irish dancers from the Kelalou Dance Academy perform for us and it was great to see such young talent. They performed a number of short dances, both in light and heavy shoes, giving contrast and portraying the diversity of steps that they have to remember. Then it was our turn. This meant a lot of hard work on our behalf beforehand, as we took on a number of new Irish tunes at the beginning of the year so that we could give a great performance to the public. From the cheers and applause that we got, I believe we achieved that! We played the amazing tune Dawning of the Day and a couple of other classic Irish pipe tunes, including Killaloe. It was then let your hair down and party time for us. Thankfully there was Irish stew for supper, as we all had an appetite by then. Just before the end of the evening, the Irish Dancing instructor gave us all a lesson in Irish dancing, with the Wyvern Dance Band accompanying us. Much fun was had; mainly because nobody knew what they were doing! The dance band serenaded us to the end of the evening, with many more drinks to be had after that.

As we were raising money for charity, tickets were £5 and we had over 100 people attend. There was also a raffle which conjured up a few more pennies. All in all, we raised £700 exactly which means just over £230 went to all three parties. A great achievement!

Watch out for our next event!
