On 09 February 13  Iona and Ben celebrated their engagement with a party held at Andover Golf Club.

It was a good night which was a Scottish themed night (surprise surprise),with the option of fancy dress or to wear something Scottish.

The evening started with some country dancing to build up a thirst then after some food a mini band performed to the guests which went down well then the dancing continued throughout the night.

It was good to see lots of their family and friends there as well as the band members.

Well done to those who did turn up in fancy dress the costumes were great.

Lastly on behalf of the Band I would like to wish Iona and Ben all the very best in the future and look forward to the wedding.

On Saturday 26th January 2013 Diarmid accompanied the Test Valley Brass Training and Youth band by playing the Highland Cathedral Bagpipe Solo, at The Wessex Brass Band Association competition held at Trafalgar School Downton. There were 6 bands in total and each had a time slot in which they had to play 4 pieces. The Competition was adjudicated by a Royal Marine Judge.

The band received a 2nd in youth, 2nd in training, and Dermot got a gold award certificate for his solo. The Bandmaster; Alec Grimsey, said that the adjudicator was very complimentary about Diarmid’s performance. The Certificate will be displayed when received.

A short Band played for the boxing tournament at Blandford Camp entertaining the troops prior to, during and afterwards in the Mess. They performed remarkably well despite the long journey there in the most appalling weather conditions and everyone one of them enjoyed themselves. We look forward to taking part in many more such bookings in the future.

The Band was once more ‘on parade’ at Andover for the Remembrance Day parade. There was an extremely good turnout and our new deputy Drum Major, David Baird, stepped up to the plate for his very first outing as Drum Major vice Joe MacDonald, owing to Joe being needed elsewhere as a Parade Marshal. No one can beat Joe but all credit must go to Davie as he had a damn good try and did extremely well. We are booked to take part in this parade for the next two years!
